In 2008 our founder Rachel found herself in the hospital 3 months earlier than expected with a newborn weighing a mere 1lb 10 oz. Often feeling overwhelmed, she and her husband watched their newborn son fight and ultimately overcome the battle, cared for by a vast team of medical professionals. Her newborn spent 11 weeks in the NICU at Texas Women’s Hospital. Rachel vowed to never underestimate the determination, love and care that hospital and other caregivers give to our community to save the lives of others. Fearless and selfless, nurses, doctors, and many others throughout the caregiving community have fought even harder during the pandemic, giving their all to help those who are sick.
After reading an article about a team in Pennsylvania who started a non-profit dedicated to providing a ray of light to a caregiver’s day, Rachel was inspired to create Care for Caregivers Fort Bend County, TX. Collecting donations from local neighborhoods, Rachel purchases treats from locally owned Fort Bend County businesses to deliver to hospitals, medical centers, care homes, senior centers and even animal shelters. These deliveries are always accompanied by handwritten notes and coloring sheets from local elementary children, such as those from Adolphus Elementary and other local schools to brighten the day of those who work so hard to help others.
The mission is clear, living under Aesop’s quote that “No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted”, Care for Caregivers Fort Bend County aims to bring a moment of joy to working caregivers one act at a time. We would love it if you would join a current campaign and become one of our many valued sponsors.
